When I think of Wine Country, it’s Tuscany, Napa, Bordeaux… but Charlottesville?! So truthfully, I hadn’t really thought of Virginia as a front runner in the wine industry, but when I was planning a bachelorette getaway weekend for my sister, it only seemed right – beautiful scenery, delicious wine, and for anyone in the southeastern states, a perfectly convenient location!
The Monticello Wine Trail is scattered with stunning vineyards, many of which are family owned making the experience feel charming and quaint. The MWT is known as the Birthplace of American Wine, thanks to native Thomas Jefferson for the vision and inspiration. The area is an excellent side trip from a DC holiday or the perfect addition for a southern American road trip!
We visited a number of wineries and our favorite of the weekend was Pippin Hill Farms. The breathtaking views overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains and the delicious, richly flavored wines make it a must-visit in the MWT. The farm-to-table restaurant serving up perfectly paired bites to compliment the tasty wine selection make Pippin Hill the whole package.
The trellised vineyards, the rustic barn-style venue and the gorgeous veranda overlooking the valley create the perfect setting for enjoying some wine with girlfriends. Snag a tasting for only $10 or enjoy one of the signature bottles and sit back and relax! Producing primarily French varieties, the highlights of the tasting for me were the Sauvignon Blanc, the Merlot Reserve and the sparkling Rosé.
If it works with your schedule then consider planning a visit to the Pippin Hill Cooking School on Wednesday evenings. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn insider tips from Pippin Hills incredible executive chef, Bill Scatena, and of course, try some delicious food! Pippin Hill has also become a rather famous wedding venue and with its’ abundance of southern charm, I’m sure you’ll see why you should consider this place for your next girls-getaway!
I was welcomed as a guest at Pippin Hill Farm, but as always, my opinions are my own. We hope that this article has inspired you to visit Pippin Hill Farm. If you have any questions about the destination please leave these in the comments below.
