The Amalfi Coast is simply stunning. We were lucky enough to spend two weeks exploring Italy and we spent a whole week on the Amalfi Coast. The whole of the Amalfi Coast is Instagramable and every town is full of awesome photo opportunities.
Out of all the places we visited, Ravello was simply the most stunning and beautiful out of everywhere we experienced. Full of beautiful villas, gardens, and amazing views of the Amalfi coastline, Ravello has it all.
Ravello is full of amazing photo opportunities and we loved capturing the beauty of this iconic town.
Here is our complete Instagram guide to Ravello!
Beautiful Villas In Ravello
There are two villas in Cimbrone, both are any photographer’s dream – Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone.
One is inspired by Arabia culture, and the other by English heritage. They are both stunning in different ways and are essential additions to your Amalfi Coast itinerary.
Villa Cimbrone
Villa Cimbrone is our favourite of the two villas. We spent hours exploring and taking in all this villa has to offer, it was our favourite place on the whole of the Amalfi Coast.
Opening Times: Villa Cimbrone is open from 9 am until sunset.
The Terrace Of Infinity – The Ultimate Ravello Instagram Spot!
By far the most iconic and beautiful place in the whole of Ravello! This terrace offers incredible views across the Amalfi Coast and is the most awesome photo location.
Make sure to try out lots of different angles and places along the terrace. The statues along the terrace make for great focal points and an awesome contrast to the blue skies.
We are not going to lie, we got lucky with the crowds here. We arrived early and shot here twice.
Both times it was fairly quiet, but that won’t always be the case. This just means you might have to get a little more creative to get those awesome Instagram shots.
Extra Tip: Make sure to wear something colourful that will stand out from the blue backdrop!
Villa Cimbrone Itself
We found the villa itself to be so overlooked. With everyone rushing to take in the awe-inspiring views at the terrace of infinity we had this spot all to ourselves.
The gardens are so beautiful with endless rose-covered flower beds, and exotic trees all perfectly framing the sun-baked villa. We really do believe there are so many lesser-known photo spots within this beautiful villa.
Make the most of them and enjoy escaping the crowds.
For the most magical stay, you can stay in Villa Cimbrone.
By staying in Villa Cimbrone you get early access to the gardens before they open and you can view the sunrise from the terrace of infinity with only your fellow hotel guests!
For other options check out this guide to the best villas in Ravello.
The gardens of the villa are so beautiful that the majority of the people spend all their time here admiring all the beautiful flowers and dramatic views. We found a stunning spot that was not busy at all.
When you first enter the gardens to your left is a set of beautiful remains of a villa. There is a small set of steps in the corner, head down here to experience this beautiful setting with incredible views.
Dome In Villa Cimbrone
The dome in Villa Cimbrone has the most dramatic walkway, perfectly framing the beautiful dome. This is another fairly quiet part of the garden so you can take your time to set up and capture some awesome photos.
Villa Rufolo
Villa Rufolo is located right in the main square of Ravello, making it the easiest to access. We went to this villa first after enjoying a coffee in the main square.
Opening times: Their opening times change depending on the season so check out their website for more up to date information.
Arches In The Entrance Of The Villa
The architecture of the arches is simply stunning. These arches are right in the entrance of the Villa and quite often quickly passed by to get to the open gardens.
This is great as it means you can really take your time to create some awesome photos and enjoy the break from the warm Italian sun.
Rose Covered Stairway To The Gardens
The stairs to the start of the gardens are completely covered in beautiful roses, the most perfect spot when in bloom. Who doesn’t need some more rose-filled pictures for their Instagram?!
Beach With Roses Above
Yes, you heard it right, more roses!
Villa Rufolo has so many of these beautiful benches scattered around the villa. With roses climbing and intertwining above you it really is a magical setting.
Enjoy the well-deserved break and sit here a while whilst taking in the dramatic views of the Amalfi Coastline.
Tip For Capturing Photos In The Villas
Both villas open around 9 am, meaning the chance to shoot at sunrise, unfortunately, is not possible. To create the best photo and for the best lightning wait for the Golden Hour, the hour before the sunsets, to get the best shots!
Another thing to note is that Villa Cimbrone can be really busy especially around sunset.
If you are going in peak season, your best chance to capture a moment unspoilt by loads of other tourists would have to be early in the day and to get a little creative with the lighting. Better yet, try a few different times throughout the day.
Shooting Gear
Bring your trusty tripod! The easiest way to capture awesome photos is by bringing your tripod with you. This will allow you to take more time to capture awesome shots and not have to awkwardly ask others to get photos for you.
Things To Do In Ravello
We arrived as early as we could but ultimately had to wait until later in the day to start capturing some photos.
The great thing is there are so many things to do in Ravello. You can be sipping on some granita in the Garden of Lucia in Villa Cimbrone itself whilst waiting for that perfect lighting.
Ravello is so beautiful, you can spend the whole day here relaxing.
In Ravello Town
Duomo Ravello
This Duomo in Ravello’s main square is so beautiful! With its white walls and grand staircase. It sits right in the centre of Ravello’s main square.
The stairs leading up to the Duomo provide the perfect photo spot, with a simple white background and beautiful architecture you can’t miss out on this photo opportunity.
Ceramic Shops
Like most towns along the Amalfi coast, there are many ceramic shops. Full of colour and beautiful artwork, they provide the perfect Instagram photo opportunity.
The Streets Of Ravello
Like any Italian town, the streets are so enchanting. On your way to Villa Cimbrone from the main square, there are beautiful narrow streets that are perfect for capturing the beauty of Ravello.
Villa Maria
We went to Villa Maria for lunch and the views this restaurant offers is so beautiful.
The hotel itself is so stunning with beautiful interiors and crazy views. We defiantly recommend coming here for some awesome photo opportunities, and a peach Bellini, or three.
How To Get To Ravello
From Amalfi Or Ravello
Ravello is quite high up, but it is easily accessible by bus. You can get a bus from Amalfi or Atrani.
The bus right is slightly terrifying and not for the faint-hearted. It will cost you between 1 to 2 euros and is roughly a 25-minute journey. The bus departs hourly from Amalfi.
From Positano
To get here from Positano, catch a ferry or bus to Amalfi and then the same bus Above to Ravello.
Places Near Ravello On The Amalfi Coast
There are so many beautiful places along the Amalfi Coast, it can be hard to choose where visit. For places near Ravello, we would recommend Amalfi and Atrani.
Amalfi And Atrani
Amalfi has so much to explore and can easily connect you to the whole of the Amalfi Coast.
Atrani is in our opinion a massively underrated town, it is so authentic and gives you a real Italian experience. Nearly every window in Atrani is full of perfectly hanging laundry. Elderly people chatting out of the windows to their neighbours. People congregating in the main square.
To experience a real sense of Italian life go to Atrani. It also has a beautiful beach and a restaurant serving traditional wood fire pizza right on the beachfront. Pizza and a beach, what more could you want from the Amalfi Coast?
