Have you been on a cruise? Booking a cruise is a unique and unforgettable travel experience that everyone should have least once.
I took my first cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel with Carnival Cruise Line. It was a four-day cruise on the Carnival Triumph and I was blown away by how many amenities are on board! Being on a cruise is like being in a floating city that was created with the sole purpose of having fun.
Everyone on the ship is there to have a good time and you can’t help but get caught up in the enjoyment vibe too. Here are ten reasons to take a Carnival Cruise to Cozumel.
1) The Views
I am an ocean girl at heart and I feel most at peace near the sea. One of the best things about cruising is being surrounded by the sea all day and night.
There is something magical about the views on a cruise ship. From every spot on the Carnival Triumph deck you have nothing but gorgeous, uninterrupted ocean views. Paradise found.
2) Relaxation Time
As a new mom and small business owner I rarely (OK never!) have time to relax so I was stoked to be able to curl up on lounge chair at the back of the cruise ship with a magazine and just chill out in the sun for a bit.
The Carnival Triumph cruise ship is huge and there are so many quiet nooks to escape to! Booking a cruise to Mexico is truly a great way to relax and unwind for a few days.
3) Family Time
As I said previously this was my first cruise and I was shocked by how many amenities are onboard Carnival Triumph. There are lots of fun things for the grown-ups to do but there are also a ton of fun activities for kids making this the perfect family getaway.
Kids (and adults) can enjoy mini-golf, basketball, the giant water slide, Dr. Seuss brunch, build-a-bear workshop, dive-in movies, kids shows, dedicated kids play areas, two swimming pools and there is also childcare available onboard too!
There are an array of Carnival cruises to Mexico that you can explore to choose the perfect one for you and your family.
4) The Food
I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was on our Mexico cruise! Our brunch every morning was delicious and our gourmet dinners were excellent, and I loved that they had healthy options too.
I of course had way too many ice cream cones (I should not be allowed near sweets because like a little kid I have no self-control!), but my favorite was the Seafood Shack. I am a huge seafood lover and the lobster rolls and King crab legs there are amazingly good!
5) The Dive In Movie Theater
I grew up in San Luis Obispo country and we had one of the last drive-in movie theaters. As a kid I remember piling as many people as we could into the car and going to watch movies under the stars.
It was magical and I was so sad when they closed our theatre (and most other drive-in theaters) years ago. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Carnival Triumph has a Dive In Movie Theater.
Imagine you walk out onto the deck of your Carnival cruise in the evening, the wind lightly blowing through your hair, the stars sparkling above, and the faint sound of waves lapping in the distance. In front of you, there is a giant projection screen placed over the swimming pool.
You and your friend (or family, or significant other) grab bags of popcorn and big, soft towels and curl up on lounge chairs to watch a movie under the stars. It’s like being at the drive-in movie theatre, only better. I have a one-year-old daughter and when she gets older I can’t wait to bring her on a Carnival Cruise so she can have this amazing experience!
6) Cozumel
Cozumel is a Mexican island (population 100,000) in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, opposite Playa del Carmen. Cozumel is a popular cruise ship port and is famous for its amazing scuba diving! I was surprised by how cute and clean the Puerta Maya is and how much there is to do here.
We opted to go snorkeling at Sunset Beach which is walking distance from the port, but there are an array of activities you can do; swimming with dolphins, catamaran sailing and snorkeling, scuba diving, exploring the ancient city of Tulum (the list goes on and on!), which are all offered as add-on activities on your Carnival cruise.
There are also tons of Mexico cruise options you can explore, to all different parts of Mexico.
7) New Orleans
You’ll board and debark your Carnival cruise to Cozumel from New Orleans which is a huge highlight! New Orleans is an amazing city and I highly recommend you spend at least a few hours exploring my favorite part – the French Quarter. From your cruise ship, it is just a quick ten-minute trolley ride to the French Quarter which you can explore on foot.
While here be sure to walk Bourbon Street where you can listen to jazz music and have delicious frozen daiquiris at one of the many bars. And be sure you also explore picturesque Royal Street where you’ll find cute shops, great food, and my favorite place to stay in New Orleans, Hotel Monteleone, where you must stop to check out their famous spinning Carousel Bar.
8) The Sauna On Carnival Triumph
The sauna on Carnival Triumph is hands down my favorite spot on the ship! I have never seen a more amazing view from a sauna and have never felt so peaceful and relaxed.
The combination of seeing waves rolling by with the warmth and the light rocking of the ship put me in a happy trance, feeling grateful and free, just staring out to sea, thinking about how lucky we all are to live in such a beautiful world.
9) The Value
This is a budget-friendly cruise with very affordable pricing making this trip perfect for group getaways or family travel. Our four-day cruise from New Orleans to Cozumel had a lot of bachelorette parties, birthday parties, and families.
There are an array of amenities onboard the Carnival Triumph and the value for money is excellent. There are also an array of other affordable Mexico cruise routes you can explore.
10) Watching Sunrise & Sunset At Sea
There is something otherworldly about getting to watch a sunrise or sunset at sea with the light bouncing off the water in all directions. I am a night owl and usually stay up working till at least 1am, so I am rarely awake early enough to see the sun come up.
But it’s not every day you get to watch the sunrise over the open sea so I made an effort to wake up early and enjoy my coffee with one of the most incredible views I’ve ever seen.
At sunset I could be found on deck (with a cocktail in hand of course), watching the sun go down and feeling grateful to have such an amazing experience of living at sea for a few days.
