Located deep within an enchanting dune landscape in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, just an hour outside of the bustling city of Dubai, you’ll find the quiet desert escape of Al Maha Resort & Spa. You’ll drive through miles of nothing but sand dunes as far as the eye can see, and then you will reach the gates of Al Maha, a 5-star resort nestled in a magical palm oasis, worlds away from everything you are use to. I spent just one night at Al Maha Resort, but as soon as I arrived I found myself wishing I was staying longer so I recommend spending at least 2 or 3 nights here so you have time to really relax and appreciate the peacefulness of the desert.
Al Maha offers 43 luxe tent villas, spread out across the property, all with private pools overlooking the desert. The villas are spacious with high tented ceilings, and decorated with plush Middle Eastern decor. I didn’t have time to do a spa treatment but I ate my fill of amazing Arab cuisine for dinner at Al Diwaan Restaurant, had great cocktails at Hajar Terrace Bar, and a yummy breakfast overlooking the desert. And the highlight of my stay was a camel ride through the desert, to have sunset cocktails in the sand dunes!
All guests at Al Maha Resort are offered 2 complimentary activities per day including: wildlife drives, falconry, archery, desert tours, camel trekking, dune bashing, nature walks, horse riding, private, sunset gatherings and desert picnics. I loved everything about my stay at this beautiful desert escape. The only negative side is that the nearest hospital is an hours drive away, but being so far away from the city is also one of the major pluses of this peaceful spot on earth. I hope these 20 photos of my stay at Al Maha inspire you to visit this magical resort on your next trip to the Middle East!
