Paris, the City of Light, the City of Love, the City of Art, the City of Fashion. There are so many wonderful things about Paris making it one of the most visited capital cities in the world. Whether you’re looking for art, culture, shopping, French gastronomy, or to fall in love, Paris is the best place to go! As Audrey Hepburn once said, “Paris Is Always A Good Idea”.
I have been living in Paris for over a year now and I must say that I’m still discovering new places every day. Paris is the ideal city to get lost in and to just wander around its charming little streets where you will find beauty in every corner. I fell in love with this city from day one and can’t see myself ever leaving…
WHEN TO VISIT PARIS
When is the best time to visit Paris? All year round! Every season has something great about it: in spring all the cherry blossom are in full bloom making the city very colourful; during the summer everybody is outside enjoying the sun in the parks and on the terraces of the Parisian cafes; in autumn you can enjoy wonderful walks whilst the trees start losing their golden leaves; and in the winter you can enjoy all the lovely Christmas decorations and festive market stalls.
GETTING AROUND PARIS
I generally get around with a Vélib – Parisian drivers are used to bicycles and scooters so I find it rather safe, although that doesn’t mean you should put your guard down… Vélib comes from vélo and liberté (“bike” and “freedom”), so think of a Vélib as a freedom bike to get you around Paris! Due to its size, you can easily reach any point in Paris in under 20 minutes.
SIGHT-SEEING IN PARIS
If it’s your first time in Paris then you will of course want to see the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Place de la Concorde, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Sacré Coeur Basilica, the Pantheon and all the other iconic monuments of the capital. I consider myself lucky to see most of these wonderful monuments every day and despite the amount of times I have seen the Eiffel Tower I’m still amazed by it every time.
Some of my favourite things to see in Paris are:
– Place des Voges
– The view from the top of the Printemps
– Montmartre
– Palais Royal
– Rue Crémieux
– Parc Monceau
THE BEST PLACES TO EAT IN PARIS
Being half French has always made gastronomy an important factor in my life. I have been to many amazing bars and restaurants in Paris and to avoid writing an infinite list of places here are some of my top recommendations:
– For delicious French food try Papillon, Le Verre Volé, Jaja, and Le Hibou
– For a lovely glass of wine or two try Etna, Les Pareseux and Verjus
– For the best cocktails in Paris you shouldn’t miss Manko, Andy Walhoo, and Ballroom
SWEET DELIGHTS
Even though you may not have a sweet tooth, you will not be able to resist to all of the delicious pastries, chocolates, ice-creams and other sweet delights that you will find in Paris.
– For exquisite macarons go to Pierre Hermé
– For tasty chocolates go to Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse
– For unique desserts go to Aux Merveilleux
– For homemade ice-creams go to Melba
WHERE TO SHOP IN PARIS
You could just come to Paris for a complete shopping spree. From the renowned shops on the Champs Elysées, the luxury brands on the rue Saint-Honoré and the high-end jewellers on the Place Vendôme, to the small boutiques in the Marais or in Saint-Germain, there will always be something to please everyone’s taste.
THE CITY OF ROMANCE
If you are looking to spend time with your amoureux in one of the most romantic cities in the world, then Paris should be on the top of your list – the city of eternal love. Love is in the air in Paris and I can vouch for that myself!
