When you think of Ubud in Bali, you probably imagine relaxing by a lush green forest with an infinity pool stretching off into the distance. I knew that I wanted such an iconic experience when I first started planning my trip, and luckily I was able to find the ideal spot by staying at The Kayon Resort by Pramana Experience!
As you can already tell, The Kayon Resort is one of the most picturesque hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The centerpiece of the hotel is their incredible infinity pool, and I’m excited to share some of my other top tips of staying at this unique resort!
The Kayon is one of the those once in a lifetime resorts which you look at and think “I’ll save that for my honeymoon!” However, I would highly recommend that if you can afford to spoil yourself, even for just a night, then make sure you consider adding The Kayon to your itinerary. Here are the top reasons why I would encourage everyone to stay at this unique resort!
THE LOCATION
The location is the number 1 reason to visit The Kayon, Ubud. To clarify, I don’t mean because the resort is centrally located, or close to the sights, or near restaurants or bars… None of those things matter because the hotel is so beautiful that you’ll never want to leave!
The resort is horseshoe shaped, with the central point being the restaurant and infinity pool and encircled by a flowing river and waterfall hundreds of yards below. It really does need to be seen to fully appreciate the design and setting. Luckily we had purchased a drone before our trip so our pictures might explain this better!
AROUND THE KAYON RESORT
If you ever do feel the desire to leave the infinity pool and experience some other activities around Ubud, the Kayon has you covered! Every day at 8 am there are guided wildlife hikes down to the river and the waterfall. The hotel also offers daily guided tours to the Kepitu Village,an hourly shuttle service to the center of Ubud and they can also arrange private tours to the surrounding areas, so you will always find yourself with plenty to do!
ROOMS AT THE KAYON, UBUD
There are three accommodation options at The Kayon. Standard rooms are the Valley Deluxe rooms, which offer a large bedroom, good sized bathroom with huge bathtub for two, and a balcony overlooking the jungle. Then you have the Kayon River Suites, similar in size to the Valley Deluxe and if you are really looking to spoil yourself you can upgrade to the River Edge Pool Villa.
KEPITU RESTAURANT
The restaurant is at the centre of the resort offering 180 degree views over the pool and the jungle, sitting up front and centre is a great spot to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner! Our breakfasts were included in the stay, and since the location and food were so fantastic we had lunch and dinner there too. Once you set foot in Kayon, it’s unlikely you will want to leave so we wanted to savour our time and enjoy everything the resort had to offer including the food!
SERAYU SPA
Serayu is the name a holy river in India where the angels landed and bathed. With The Kayon being surrounded by a flowing river, The Serayu Spa sits 20 meters up on the high river cliff and reflects the spirit of this name. There are two treatment rooms and one beauty room, overlooking the jungle and river. With an extensive spa menu to choose from, you can relax and indulge in a Balinese massage, body treatment, scrub or even go for one of the intensive detox programmes.
OTHER SERVICES AT THE KAYON
– YOGA PAVILION The resort has a beautiful open wooden rooftop yoga studio where you can participate in group or private classes. Complimentary classes run twice a day at 7am and 2pm.
– AFTERNOON TEA Complimentary afternoon tea is served everyday between 3pm and 5pm at the Riverside Canyon Jetty.
– RIVERSIDE CANYON JETTY A short wander down towards to the waterfall will bring you to the gorgeous Canyon Jetty. On the deck you can take afternoon tea, lunch or just relax and read whilst enjoying the sounds of the river below you.
– BALINESE CULTURE DINNER Every Friday a charity dinner is held at Kumba Karna Stage. The Kayon Resort supports the local Kepitu Village in preserving arts and culture, and this dinner is a way for you become part of that. The Kayon’s chef serves up an authentic Balinese gourmet dinner menu whilst you are entertained by Balinese dancers. It makes for a great cultural experience while supporting the local community!
If that’s not enough, you can also take part in a Balinese Cooking Class, have a romantic candlelit dinner or organise a private tour of the nearby region. Find out more here.
Overall, I was incredibly impressed with my stay at The Kayon Resort. From the surreal setting, to the impeccable service, to the top quality amenities, the Kayon will definitely leave you impressed and dreaming of returning once you are back home!
