I recently took a four day trip to Singapore staying at the stunning luxury Hotel Fort Canning. Situated in the historic Fort Canning Park, the hotel is a relaxing oasis right in the middle of the city. In this review I’m excited to share why you should stay at Hotel Fort Canning next time you are in The Lion City!
The History
One of my favourite parts of any hotel stay is learning about the history and culture, which is a central part of Hotel Fort Canning. This is made clear as soon as you arrive in the main lobby, because there are 4 glass covered underground dig sites showing artefacts that were found in the surrounding area dating to different periods of colonisation of Singapore. The hotel also offers various walking trails around the Fort Canning Park explaining some of the interesting history along the way!
The Location
Fort Canning Park is one of the central parts that makes Hotel Fort Canning so unique. The Park is the highest natural elevation point in southern Singapore, so you can get some great sunset photos from one of the many vantage points in the hotel. It is also within walking distance to the vibrant Downtown Core, so you will have easy access to shopping and restaurants. The Park itself, also known as “Forbidden Hill”, has an incredible amount of history behind it, from being the site where 5 ancient Kings of Singapore were laid to rest to Sir Stamford Raffles building his residence there in 1822, and more. Be sure to take advantage of the above mentioned hotel walking tours to learn more about the immense history in the area.
The Rooms
After a long day of site seeing and learning about the deep history in Singapore, there’s nothing better than coming back to a clean and modern room. Luckily, Hotel Fort Canning has you covered with luxurious rooms that really feel like a home away from home, likely with more technology than you have in your own place! All the options in the room can be controlled from a central control pad, including lowering the blackout shades, turning on the do not disturb and cleaning notifications, and navigating the high tech hotel TV system.
My personal favourite part of the room was the exquisite bathroom. The ceilings are tall and filled with natural light from the floor to ceiling window looking out over Singapore, giving a very warm atmosphere while getting ready in the morning. The bath tub was huge and the only difficult part was finding the motivation to eventually get out! Sufficient to say you will be well taken care of and your room will have every amenity you are used to (and then some)!
The Food
The breakfast buffet offered each day at The Salon Restaurant was another highlight. There are multiple chefs to prepare several different dishes, including one of the best eggs benedict I’ve ever had. From pastries, to traditional Asian foods, to fresh fruits and cheeses, you definitely will start each day off right!
Another highlight I was able to experience was the Afternoon Tea. From just $25 per person this is the perfect way to cap off the afternoon before getting ready in the evening. As expected, the teas and coffees were all very high quality and were paired with an extravagant tower of sandwiches, sweets, and other local delicacies created by the hotels in house chef. It is also worth noting that the chef is multi-talented and designed many of the perspex art pieces that can be found around the hotel.
There are many other dining experiences and offers, including picnics in the summer months and christmas celebration menus, so be sure to check these out during your stays to experience some of the more unique food options!
Bar
The hotel has a beautiful bar area, Tisettanta Lounge, which is a stylish place to relax and enjoy a delicious cocktail whilst listening to contemporary jazz music. Every evening in the bar area opposite the lobby, between 6pm and 7pm the hotel offers complementary drinks and canapes, including a selection of wines and prossecco. This is perfect way to start the evening, before heading out to one of Singapore’s famed restaurants.
Overall
It goes without saying that I can highly recommend staying at Hotel Fort Canning. The location of the hotel is perfect, offering a unique, calming setting only minutes from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Singapore. The customer service was wonderful, with smiling faces to help you with every request and make sure you are extremely comfortable during your stay. Whether you are hosting a large event or looking for a romantic weekend getaway, be sure to check out Hotel Fort Canning next time you are in Singapore!
I was welcomed as a guest by Hotel Fort Canning. As always all opinions expressed are my own.

This hotel looks stunning. I love the way you described how the ancient history of Singapore is woven right into all the current high-end technology. The best of both worlds, indeed. Someday if I find myself in Singapore, I would definitely stay here.
