The Colony Hotel in Seminyak is a luxurious adults only hotel designed in a beautiful colonial style. The hotel is centrally located in Seminyak, within minutes of some great restaurants and bars and the beach. And the best bit, if you are child free or leaving the little ones at home, The Colony is an over 16’s resort so you can relax by the pool without the kids dive bombing next to you!
There are five room types from the deluxe rooms up to a huge grande suite, offering generous living space including a balcony overlooking the central hotel pool. I stayed in a deluxe room, and whilst this was not a huge room compared to Balinese standards, the room was plenty large enough for two. Appointed with a king bed, desk, flat screen tv, good wardrobe space, large bathroom with a waterfall shower.
All the rooms are located around the central swimming pool, so no matter which one you pick your doors or balcony will open right onto this view!
Breakfast is included in your stay every morning and you can choose from a range of delicious Indonesian, American and European menu options served at the poolside cafe.
With so many restaurant options close by, you may be tempted to overlook the hotels on site restaurant, but you should certainly consider dining at the Urchin Grill & Raw Bar at least one evening. With a menu that changes daily depending on the local market, you know that you are getting the freshest seafood available!
Tip – Alcohol is expensive in Bali and therefore the cost of cocktails and wines can be prohibitive depending on your budget. Whether you are staying at The Colony or not, you should head to the bar at the front of the hotel for great people watching and very reasonably priced happy hour drinks!
The location of the hotel is great and is within walking distance of the some of the best lunch spots, I tried several in the area and can definitely recommend Sea Circus for lunch and Motel Mexicola for dinner and drinks. For the evening, you can also head to the nearby popular Potato Head for cocktails at sunset before the party starts. Potato Head is also a great spot for the day, overlooking the beach, but be sure to get there early to snag a daybed and and enjoy lunch overlooking the water!
It’s about a ten minute walk to the central Seminyak (or short taxi), where you will find a huge quantity of restaurants, bars and boutiques. If you are looking for the best party spot in town, don’t miss La Favela for great food and music. For the guys, leave the Bintang tank at home, but if you show up here in the wrong attire there will probably be an entrepreneurial local that will sell you a t-shirt to get you entry!
Overall, The Colony Hotel didn’t disappoint! All my expectations when I started planning my trip to Bali and this hotel were met!
